Release 18 is the first release of 5G Advanced, final specifications expected to be released in 2023

Release 18 is the first release of 5G Advanced, final specifications expected to be released in 2023.

Some #features are already being trialed by #carriers & equipment #manufacturers . Rel 18 features include:
🧠Enhanced network slicing: Will enhance the #networkslicing capabilities of 5G networks, making it easier to create & manage multiple virtual networks on the same physical infrastructure -Will allow #operators to offer a wider range of services to their customers & improve the #efficiency of their networks.
🧠Improved security: Will include a number of new #security features that are designed to protect 5G networks from cyberattacks - eg. enhanced authentication & encryption, new tools for detecting & responding to attacks.
🧠New use cases: Will also include support new #usecases - AR, VR, & industrial automation.

What about AI And ML air interface in Release 18?

AI and ML are being used in a number of ways in the air interface of 5G Advanced, also known as Release 18; include:
🤖AI-based network slicing: Can be used to #optimize the slicing process by predicting user behavior & allocating resources accordingly -help to improve network performance & prevent congestion
🤖AI-based QoS mgmt: AI can be used to optimize QoS by #predicting user traffic patterns & adjusting priorities accordingly -Can help to ensure that different types of traffic are given the priority they need to perform well.
🤖AI-based fraud detection: To detect and prevent #fraud by analyzing user behavior & identifying patterns that are indicative of fraud -can help to protect networks from malicious actors
🤖AI-based user experience personalization: Can be used to #personalize the user experience by recommending content, optimizing network performance, providing security recommendations-can help to improve the user experience & make 5G networks more user-friendly

On Network architecture enhancements, ML to run over different HW, SW & future RAN function split to improve flexibility & efficiency-5G Advanced

⚙️Network architecture enhancements: More flexible & efficient than the current 5G #architecture . This new architecture will be based on the concept of network slicing, allows operators to create & manage multiple virtual networks on the same physical infrastructure

⚙️ML to run over different HW, SW: Allows operators to choose the platform that best suits their needs and #budget . For eg, some operators may choose to run ML algorithms on cloud-based platforms, while others may choose to run them on dedicated HW appliances

⚙️Future RAN function split: A technique that separates the #ran into two or more functional blocks -allows operators to optimize the performance of each block and improve the overall efficiency of the network. Eg., RAN #functionsplit can be used to separate the #controlplane from the user plane- allows the control plane to be run on a centralized server, while the user plane can be run on distributed nodes.
