China Mobile reaches 1.7 million 5G base stations.
China Mobile is the first operator in the world to reach the 1.7 million 5G base station milestone -Aggressively deploying 5G infrastructure in recent years, and now the leader in 5G coverage in China.
Chinese operators have so far deployed a total of 2.7 million 5G base stations across the country.
Its “5.5G” network will feature energy efficiency, enhanced computing capabilities & support for artificial intelligence & metaverse applications.
China Mobile’s 5G network upgrade supports new applications- AI and metaverse as a wider range of industry integration, including an ongoing autonomous driving test in Shanghai. - will be an “AI self-intelligent, cloud integration, low-carbon and efficient network.
Unique 5G offerings include:
5G New Calling: This service offers high-definition video calling with ultra-low latency. It is ideal for businesses that need to communicate with customers or employees in real time. Priced at RMB 10 ($1.38) per month for unlimited calls.
5G Mobile IPv6: This service allows 5G devices to roam seamlessly between different networks. This is important for businesses that need to ensure that their employees can stay connected while they are traveling. Priced at RMB 5 ($0.69) per month.
5G Private Networks: These networks are dedicated to a single organization, and they offer more security and control than public networks. They are ideal for businesses that need to protect sensitive data or that need to run critical applications. Price depends on the size and complexity of the network.
5G Edge Computing: This technology brings computing resources closer to the edge of the network, which can improve latency and performance for applications. It is ideal for businesses that need to run latency-sensitive applications, such as real-time video streaming or gaming. Price depends on the amount of computing resources needed.
5G Ultra-Broadband: This service offers speeds of up to 10 Gbps, which is much faster than traditional broadband. It is ideal for businesses that need to transfer large amounts of data or that need to run high-performance applications. Price depends on the speed and bandwidth needed.
In addition to traditional monetization methods, China Mobile is also likely to include some new methods, such as:
1. Service-based monetization: Operators may charge businesses for services that are delivered over 5G networks, such as remote monitoring and control.
2. Network slicing: Operators may sell slices of their 5G network to different businesses, each with its own dedicated set of resources -to support a variety of applications, such as industrial automation and healthcare. Some analysts have estimated that the prices could range from $10,000 to $100,000 per month, depending on the size and complexity of the slice.
3. Edge computing: Operators provide edge computing services to businesses, which could help to improve the performance of applications.
